Mission

We are looking for an experienced Geospatial Team Lead who will be responsible for the Geospatial team working both on the collection, structuring, and analysis of geospatial data and on campaign digitization (notably of health campaigns such as anti-Malaria and vaccination campaigns). You will lead a team of (currently) 7 colleagues, composed of geospatial experts, health information systems experts and project managers, located in Brussels, Geneva and different countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Current projects include support to health ministries in several countries in organizing their geospatial data, support to the improvement of base data such as georeferentials and population data, support to data collection campaigns and micro-planning, elaboration of webGIS portals, geospatial modeling, etc.

Start date: as soon as possible.

Location: Brussels. You will be expected to travel to countries where we have active projects (mainly in Sub-Saharan Africa).

Team: Bluesquare is a horizontal company with 70+ staff in multiple countries and organized by project “squads”. We value ownership, autonomy, flexibility, communication and teamwork.

Role & responsibilities

Lead the team in all its aspects, including:

Technical expertise and guidance to team members
Coordination of the work of the team
Management of HR aspects of the team (end of year reviews, hiring, etc)

Other responsibilities include:

Represent the company on matters related to the team’s work
Liaise with clients and partners
Define strategic directions of business development
Coordinate and participate in the elaboration of project proposals and tenders

As part of the management team, you contribute to the general management of Bluesquare, together with the CEO, CFO, CTO and the other team leads, in terms of:

Vision : (re) define / (re) shape the vision of the company
Strategic direction: shape a strategic vision and translate it in operational goals / yearly objectives
Continuous improvement organization and internal tools
Budget trade-offs

Profile

This position is open to freelancers and to employees.

Required: We are looking for an experienced candidate with strong management and technical skills, notably :

Expert knowledge in GIS and GIS software, notably free software
Good knowledge of webGIS technologies
Experience in managing teams and projects
Experience with client contact and negotiations
Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English

Preferred:

Working experience in Global health, Health financing or Monitoring and Evaluation in another sector is a plus
Working experience in Sub-Saharan Africa is a plus
Knowledge of programming and of software development processes

Soft skills:

Team player with strong analytical and interpersonal skills
Clear and structured communication
Ability to work autonomously
