Mission and description of the role

We are looking for a Data Scientist with experience in data analysis and visualisation to join our data science team.

Start date: as soon as possible.

Location: Based in Brussels (preferably) but willing to travel to other countries in order to support Bluesquare’s projects. Bluesquare takes into account the safety risks of its employees in the areas concerned.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Data Management & Analysis :
    • In collaboration with the data science team, develop script in R or Python for data cleaning, data processing, data integration and data quality screening.  
    • Apply your technical skills in DHIS2 to contribute to improving the management of health data.
  • Data visualisation : set up dashboards using different BI and visualisation tools (Tableau, Power BI..) to answer clients’ needs, and develop customised applications for data visualisation. 
  • Quality control : review and automate scripts to ensure quality control of the released data integration work.
  • Technical writing: write code documentation, users guidelines, articles and other materials that will be useful to communicate with our clients and other partners.
  • Capacity building: train technical stakeholders in the use of various open-source and in-house Data solutions.
  • Data Utilisation: Support end-users in utilising data visualisation products and integrating them into their workflow processes.

Our technical stack

You will have to work with the following technologies and software:

  • Python or R for data processing (data wrangling, forecasting, operational research, geospatial)
  • The Jupyter data science ecosystem
  • Data visualization tools and BI software (Tableau, PowerBI, Superset, matplotlib, Plotly, Dash,…)
  • Our own platforms, such as OpenHexa, Iaso and OpenIMIS
  • Industry-standard tools such as DHIS2 and ODK
  • Geospatial Software (GDAL, QGIS, Cartographic Rendering Software, etc.)

Profile

Required

  • Master degree in data management and analysis, statistics, econometrics…
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Working experience in data analysis (e.g. R or Python), in database management (e.g. SQL)w with advanced mastery of Excel and 1-3 years of experience in R/Python programming and with creating scripts to manipulate, clean and analyse data
  • Good working knowledge of the Jupyter ecosystem
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills

Preferred

  • Working experience in Global health, Health financing,  Disease Surveillance, Geospatial or Monitoring and Evaluation in another sector a plus
  • Experience with DHIS2 configuration for management of health and with ODK for the creation of forms
  • Experience with BI tools & with the creation of interactive dashboards (Tableau, Power BI, Superset)
  • Notion of GIS (Geographical Information System)
  • Working experience on time series forecasting, operational research, supply chain, geosciences
  • Working experience with Docker
  • Working experience with GCP
  • Working experience in Africa, Asia or Latin America
