Powering environmental efficiency: strengthening sustainability through robust data foundations

what we do

Bluesquare supports environmental protection and climate resilience by providing strong data foundations, standardized Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), and advanced geospatial analytics. We help donors, governments, and international organizations manage large-scale environmental and urban sanitation programs by integrating fragmented data into actionable insights for both sustainable policy-making and field-level impact.

our expertises

Our expertise lies in delivering standardized M&E frameworks for complex environmental programs that often span multiple regions and involve diverse stakeholders. We specialize in data integration, consolidating information from field sensors, satellite imagery (landcovers, soils map and elevation maps), waste management registries, and climate data. By generating high-value geospatial products—such as land cover mapping, air quality monitoring, and precipitation forecasting—on our platforms, we provide the technical backbone for informed environmental actors. We also support results reporting for major global partners like Enabel, ensuring transparency and accountability in green initiatives.

challenges we solve

As environmental crises intensify, Bluesquare addresses critical gaps in the current landscape of sustainability. Global funding is rapidly shifting toward climate adaptation and mitigation, yet many environmental projects still rely on fragmented, manual, or paper-based reporting systems. We solve this by digitizing and normalizing data in sectors where information is often siloed, such as urban sanitation or forest degradation monitoring. By moving away from one-off, “black-box” tools, we build scalable digital infrastructures that allow for long-term tracking of environmental indicators and climate-related risks.

our tools

Bluesquare leverages a proven open-source stack to transform environmental data into sustainable impact:

Data collection with IASO

We use IASO for georeferenced field data collection, allowing for precise mapping of environmental infrastructure, waste collection points, and protected area boundaries.

Integration with OpenHEXA

Our OpenHEXA pipelines automate the ingestion of diverse data sources—including satellite data (NDVI), meteorological records, and DHIS2 entries—to compute complex climate and environmental indicators.

Actionable visualization

We deploy web-mapping solutions and interactive dashboards (via PowerBI, Superset, Tableau or GeoNode) to make environmental trends and project progress visible to decision-makers in real-time.

Case study

SANITA, to clean cities in Guinea

In Guinea, Bluesquare collaborated with Enabel on the SANITA project to revolutionize urban waste management in Conakry. The objective was to build a robust DHIS2-based database to monitor waste collection and sanitation services across the city. By centralizing data and developing specialized dashboards, we enabled the National Agency for Public Sanitation (ANASP) to track operational efficiency. To ensure long-term sustainability, we focused on extensive capacity building, training local technical teams in server administration and data management, ensuring the system remains fully operational under local leadership.

At Bluesquare, we prioritize capacity strengthening and local ownership of environmental data. We are your technical partners, ensuring the success of the initiatives we support. Our mission is to build digital foundations that empower countries to manage their own natural resources and climate future independently and efficiently.

Case study

Data for ecological transition with the Education4Climate initiative

Reflecting our commitment to climate action, Bluesquare supported The Shift Project through an initiative for the Education4Climate project. The goal was to map and analyze how higher education programs in France and Europe integrate climate and energy issues into their curricula. We leveraged our data processing expertise to set up a dedicated dashboard designed to visualize the landscape of “green” education. By centralizing information on thousands of courses, the initiative aimed to empower students and faculty to accelerate the ecological transition within academic institutions.
